More than $2,600 of uptown Martinsville merchandise left the window of Arts Etc. recently. Those were the prizes Bill Hiatt of Ridgeway won in the Martinsville Uptown Revital-ization Association's "Win the Uptown Window Contest."

This event involved local merchants donating various items from their stores. All the items were displayed in Arts Etc.'s window on Church Street. Participants had to visit each store to find the val-ue of its donated item and receive a signature from the merchant.

Completed entries, donated by Service Printing on Bridge Street, were dropped off at the Martinsville Uptown office. "It was great to walk around and visit these stores," Hiatt said. He said his wife made him do it, and now she has received the goodies.

Twenty-five merchants donated items such as gift cer-tificates, clothing, furniture, art and gift baskets.Around 40 people particiated in the promotion.

"It was interesting to see that entries were from Eden, Reidsville, Spencer, Ridge-way... and just a few from Martinsville," said Lee Probst, director of Martinsville ptown.

MURA hopes to continue these types of promotions to ighlight stores in uptown.
